Moderation Policy

1. What is never moderated

Answers and predictions are the record. The record cannot be touched, by anyone, for any reason. We do not hide, edit, remove, or downrank an answer, no matter how unpopular it is, no matter how many people report it, no matter how much we disagree with it. This is not a choice we get to make; the Charter forbids it (Articles 2 and 6). Moderation applies only to comments, and later to live chat. Comments are an operational layer. They are not the record.

2. What gets a comment hidden or removed

A comment may be hidden or removed only for the following. The list traces the Charter's four harms (Article 5) plus a basic civil floor:

  • Harassment or threats aimed at a person.
  • Doxxing, or posting personal data of others.
  • Spam and commercial solicitation.
  • Content that is illegal under applicable law.
  • Instructions for causing harm.
  • Impersonating another person.

That list is the whole list. Disagreement is not a violation. Unpopular moral views are not a violation. Blunt criticism of an idea, including ours, is not a violation. becounted exists to record disagreement; a moderation policy that punished it would defeat the service. When a comment attacks an idea, it stays. When it attacks a person, it goes.

3. How it works

Any user can report a comment, once per comment. In Phase 1 we review reports within 24 hours. When live shows begin, reports made during a show are reviewed in real time.

If a comment violates section 2, we hide it. Hiding is a status change: the comment stops being displayed, but the database row is not deleted, because the enforcement record is itself a record. (Comments are deleted outright only when their author deletes their account, as described in the Privacy Policy.)

Repeat or severe violations can lead to account suspension. Suspension stops future submissions. It never removes past answers (Terms, section 7).

We are a small operation. We do not promise pre-screening. We promise honest review after a report.

4. Appeals

If your comment was hidden or your account suspended and you believe we were wrong, write to hello@becounted.me. Every appeal gets a second look, separated in time from the first decision and read fresh against this policy. The outcome, restore or uphold, is logged with its reason.

5. Korea: temporary measures

We operate under the law of the Republic of Korea. If someone claims that a comment infringes their rights, for example defamation or invasion of privacy, we may blind that comment for up to 30 days under the Network Act while the claim is reviewed. After review, the comment is either restored or removed. The claim and the outcome are both logged.

6. Transparency

Every moderation action is logged internally with its reason, append-only. Nothing in the log is edited or silently altered, by anyone, including the operator. We are bound by the same rules we enforce.

Each quarter we publish a transparency report with counts by category: reports received, comments hidden, appeals, reversals, suspensions, and Korean temporary measures.

7. Changes

This policy will change as we learn. Every change is posted with its date, and meaningful changes are explained in plain words. One thing can never change: the prohibitions of Charter Article 5 are a minimum standard. No future version of this policy may lower that floor, and no version may ever touch the record.
